Clyde Milton Douglass died peacefully on September 10, 2025, at the age of 80. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Amato, and her husband Michael; grandchildren Luke, Connor, Shane, and Kevin; and Wilma Parrish Douglass. He was preceded in death by his partner, Carolyn Lee.
Born on March 23, 1945, in Salem, Missouri, Clyde was the only child of Olive Mae Preston Douglass and Clyde Douglass, Sr. He grew up in Salem and played basketball and trumpet in the band at Salem High School. From an early age, he worked in his family’s businesses—the Chat & Nibble Cafe, the Preston Theater, the newspaper route, and coin-operated machine rentals throughout Southern Missouri. These experiences instilled in him a lifelong resourcefulness and ability to fix nearly anything, from jukeboxes to cars. He even built the family home in Minnesota, a lasting testament to his craftsmanship and diligence.
Clyde’s practical talents and curiosity about how things work led him to the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He became a registered Professional Engineer and built a career in facilities engineering, working for several hospitals, including the Mayo Clinic and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Later, he served as a Project Manager for the Citrus County School Board in Florida, where he oversaw school construction and repairs for more than a decade.
He was ordained a Deacon in the Worldwide Church of God, serving faithfully for more than 25 years. He was well liked by his colleagues and friends. Over the course of his life, he lived in seven states and enjoyed traveling abroad, experiences that broadened his perspective and enriched his life. He was a lifelong collector and an avid photographer, appreciating the things that sparked his imagination. His life is a reminder of the quiet dignity found in service and the satisfaction of a problem solved with skill and care. He will be remembered with love and respect.
