Claudio Cortes Flage

October 2, 1964 — August 27, 2025

Laurel, Maryland

Claudio Cortes Flage, resident of Laurel, MD passed away on August 27, 2025 at the age of 60.  He was born in Santiago, Chile, son of Miguel Cortes and Victoria Slimming.  Survived by his wife Eileen Cruz Flage and children Vanessa and Alyssa.  He is also survived by his brother Patricio (Pato) Cortes, Tía Margaret (Donald), Cousins Elizabeth (Adam), Jennifer (Michael), David (Jessica) and 8 nieces and nephews.

As a young adult, he immigrated to the U.S. to pursue his education. When he arrived, he knew no English but made it his mission to learn quickly by taking classes. Before long, he enrolled at Prince George’s Community College, where he also worked as a part-time computer technician, taught Continuing Education courses, and eventually rose through the ranks to become Manager of Network Services—a position he held for more than 35 years.

He had a quiet nature, but was known as a hardworking, dedicated, and dependable individual. At work there was a sense of comfort in knowing he could tackle any network challenge with skill and confidence. His love for tech gadgets kept him up to date with the latest technology—so much so that Black Friday and Prime Day became his favorite holidays.

His job also led him to meet his future wife and best friend.  Both born in opposite countries of the world but falling into each other’s lives in Maryland as a perfect match. Together, they built a beautiful family with two daughters he was extremely proud of. He became the ultimate Dance Dad—driving them to competitions near and far, serving as historian by videotaping and photographing every performance, and sharing them with family and friends with pride.

He was a selfless man who always put others first, patiently waiting his turn. For years, he provided everything he could for his family before ever thinking of himself. He made sure his wife and daughters had safe, reliable vehicles, and in turn, he settled for hand-me-downs—never complaining, always content to wait. Eventually, it was his turn, and he finally treated himself to the new Honda Pilot he had long dreamed of. Those who knew him well saw how he cared for it like his favorite cherished toy.

When there were no plans, he’d happily spend time on the computer browsing the web or watching a movie—or two, or even three—on any of the many streaming apps or cable channels. He especially enjoyed comedies that made him laugh out loud, true stories, and action films. He is also remembered for the soccer games and tennis matches that constantly played on his iPhone and iPad.

Above all, it is his caring presence that will be most remembered and deeply missed—the truest reflection of who he was.

A viewing and prayer service will be held on Monday, September 8th, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM for those who wish to pay their respects in person.  Details regarding the Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be shared at a later date.
