Charles E. Higgs Jr.

Charles Edward (Charlie) Higgs, Jr., 72, of Clarksville, Maryland passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Charles Higgs, Sr. and Anne Spencer. He was predeceased by his sister Linda Smith (Bob) and is survived by his brothers Paul and Doug.

Charlie was the devoted husband of Patricia Higgs; loving father of Erica Bateman (Kyle), Charles Higgs III (Nick Bowden), Christopher Higgs, Amanda Kopp (Shawn), Camille Higgs, and Matthew Higgs; and proud grandfather of Nylah Kopp.

Shortly after graduating from Suitland High School, he worked at the Embers Restaurant in Ocean City, MD. He then went to work in the mail room at the Washington Gas Company for several years until he joined the US Capitol Police. As a police officer, he was diligent and professional, demonstrating exemplary attention to detail. Over the course of his career, he was commended on numerous occasions for going above and beyond the call of duty. After 25 years of service, he retired and later went to work at JHU APL in the mail room where he stayed for 5 years.

Charlie enjoyed the beach, fishing, gardening, and playing baseball. He was a member of the Ponce de Leon baseball team for many years.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 17th at the Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A., Clarksville, MD from 6-8pm. Friends and Family may visit Donaldson Funeral Home on Thursday, January 18th at the Donaldson Funeral Home from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm where a service will be held at 11:00 am.
