Charles "Chuck" Heishman

March 18, 1934 — July 14, 2020

Ellicott City, Maryland

Charles Monroe Heishman (also know as Chuck or Charlie) passed away on July 14, 2020.  Chuck was born in Savage, MD to Charles and Elma Heishman.  He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister Glenda. He attended Savage Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church and also served as president of the Kiwanis Club. He was an avid golfer who received recognition for his long drives. He loved the game of baseball and was the youngest player on a skilled Savage baseball team, and played in a tournament in Memorial Stadium. He was a faithful fan of the Orioles and liked to manage the team from his chair in front of the TV.   He was skilled at carpentry.   His nephew once remarked that he was the best ‘basement finisher’ he had ever seen. He loved his family and friends. The grandkids were the light of his life.

Chuck served in the US Army (Signal Corps) for two years. After basic training, he attended the Southeastern Signal School at Fort Gordon, GA. After graduating as a cryptographer, he was assigned to the Pentagon.  He  finished his active military career at Fort Lee, VA.  He remained  in the reserve component of the Army at Fort Meade.  After his honorable discharge from the Army,  Chuck owned and operated a Shell gas station in Laurel, MD. He began a new career in banking as manager of the bookkeeping department at Citizens Bank and Trust Company of MD.  He became the assistant treasurer before joining Citizens National Bank (later changed to Mercantile) as an assistant VP, and rose quickly through the ranks to the position of Executive Vice President.

Chuck is survived by his wife Patricia (Pat) Patterson Heishman, son Brett and his wife Leslie and three grandchildren (Bailey, Sara, and Charles, II). Additionally, he is survived by his sister Carole Heishman DeVore; niece Glenda DeVore; and nephews John Patterson Jr, Dean Patterson and Lyle DeVore.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A. 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD on Tuesday July 28  from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a Celebration of Life starting at 11:00 AM.  Internment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Chuck’s memory to church or a charity of your choice.
