Carrie Ellen (Spear) Vix, age 43, of Glenelg, Maryland, passed away suddenly on December 2, 2025, at her home.
Born in Evansville, IN, December 11, 1981, to Charleen (Browning) Spear and Robert Kenneth Spear, M.D., Carrie grew up in Evansville, attending Memorial High School, where she played on the tennis team for four years, graduating with the class of 2000. She continued her education at Purdue, graduating with a degree in Computer Graphics Technology. At Purdue, Carrie met the love of her life, Grant Vix and they married June 5, 2004. Carrie worked in the computer technology field throughout her career. Her last job was with Quantum Computing Inc. where she managed a group of IT experts and published a paper on Entropy Computing in Nature. Carrie experienced an exciting career, working for many companies. Wherever she worked Carrie endeavored to make a difference and improve the quality of the product she worked on.
If you were lucky enough to encounter Carrie, you would never forget her unique personality. She was the kindest, sweetest and most caring person on the planet. Carrie’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, and her favorite moments were laughing, cooking, watching TV and loving both her daughter Isabel and her husband, Grant.
Carrie is survived by her husband of 21 years, Grant Vix, and her daughter, Isabel both of Glenelg, Maryland. Her parents listed above, her sisters, Katrina Kaczmarek, Scottsdale, AZ and Sarah Bernadac, (Guillaume), Houston, TX, mother and father-in-law, Fran and Vernon Vix, M.D. of Evansville, IN, brother-in-law, Alex Vix (Heidi) of St. Louis, MO, sister-in-law, Grace Vix (Nick Hempstead) of Aldie, VA. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by cousin, Allison Carter and cousin, John Browning.
A celebration of Carrie’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Donaldson Funeral Home in Clarksville, Maryland. Friends may visit from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home on Sunday.
