Carylon J. Tallman, age 90, of Columbia, MD, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at home after a long battle with breast cancer.
She was born on March 25, 1936, in Montrose, WV. She was the daughter of the late George and Frances Betler. She was the wife of the late Wiley H. Tallman who died in 2006.
Carylon attended a one room schoolhouse in Montrose, WV, before the new public high school was built in Elkins, WV. She graduated from there and went on to Berea College in Kentucky to pursue a Home Economics degree. She married and moved several times for Wiley’s career before settling in Columbia, MD, where she raised her family.
After raising her family, she pursued a career at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory as an electronics technician, where she worked on projects for NASA including Voyager and the Cassini spacecraft among others.
She retired in 1999 and spent her time doting on her family and working in her flower beds along with numerous sewing projects.
She was the cherished mother of Michael Tallman and wife Marcia of Ellicott City, MD; Roger Tallman of Beverly, WV; Eric Tallman of Columbia, MD, and son-in-law, Steven Knowles of Columbia, MD. She is the grandmother of Jeffrey, Jeremy, Jessica and husband, Wyatt, Garrett, Katie and husband, Oscar, great-grandmother of Brianna, Ava, Austin and Asher.
She is survived by her brother, George Dewey Betler and wife, Karen, of Catonsville, MD, along with her brother-in-law, Fred Pross, of Beverly, WV, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Katharin Pross, and her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Floyd Gilbert Estridge, Jr.
A visitation will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A., 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 1:00-2:00 pm. Interment will be private following the visitation at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Fulton, MD.
