Carol C. Chaney

Carol Clarke Chaney, 75, of Columbia MD, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by family on January 22, 2022.

She was born in 1946, the eldest daughter of A. Slater Clarke, Esq., and Jean Sexton Clarke of Bethesda, MD.

Carol retired from Montgomery County Public Schools where she worked for over 20 years as a school business officer.

Carol enjoyed traveling, reading, chats on the phone, her many iPad games, and, of course, her family. From those “never-miss” summer crab parties in Calverton, to those famous “Clarke Family Christmas dinners” - Carol was the “hostess extraordinaire.” After raising her three children, Carol’s passion in later life was traveling with her husband and doting on her grandchildren. She was a loving Grandma, and nothing was too good for her grandkids. From unforgettable summers spent in Bethany Beach, DE, a memorable week at Disney World, and a Caribbean cruise - Grandma Chaney was pure entertainment.

Carol is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Mark; their children Kelly Kraft (David); Kerry Starr (Kristopher); Kevin Chaney (Heather); her seven grandchildren: Connor, Cameron, & Colleen Starr; Amanda & Allison Kraft; Morgan & Nolan Chaney; her sister Marie Tayman (Bill); and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother who died in infancy.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be at the Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A., Clarksville, MD on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Guests may call on the family between the hours of 2 pm to 4 pm and again from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fulton, MD at 11 am, Friday, February 18, 2022. Interment will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Johns Hopkins Heart and Vascular Institute , Atrial Fibrillation Research Fund.
