Carmen Alverez Jacobsen

Carmen Jacobsen, 98, of Silver Spring Maryland, passed away on Friday July 2, at 12:30 am in Fulton, Maryland.

Carmen was born in Asturias, Spain on July 27, 1922. She was adopted by Maria Garcia as an infant. Maria’s husband passed away prior to Carmen being adopted. Her full name was Ana Maria del Carmen Alverez Garcia. She grew up in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. In Madrid, she found a job with an American Diplomat. They brought her to the United States. In the United States she met and married Carlo Skinstad Jacobsen, from Denmark.  Both became Naturalized Citizens of the United States. Carmen worked in the Montgomery County Public School System as a cook in the school cafeteria. She worked at Paint Branch High School from 1969 to 1992. She retired and lived in the family home in Silver Spring MD. She loved gardening, selling her flowers, cooking, yard sales, raising chickens and being with her family. She is survived by her son Carl “Kim” Jacobsen and his family: Ann Jacobsen and Carmen’s grandchildren Carla, Michael, Matthew and Caroline. Her son Michael “Jim” Jacobsen and his family: Teri McWethy and Carmen’s grandchildren, Melissa, Stephen and Carl. She was also a Great-grandmother of three: Kylie, Alex and Able.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday July 9 at St. Francis of Assisi in Fulton, MD at 9:00am with interment following at Union Cemetery in Burtonsville, MD at 10:00am.
