Barrie Albert Lau

April 23, 1947 — April 17, 2024

Fulton, Maryland

Barrie Albert Lau, born on April 23, 1947, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 17, 2024.  He was 76.

The son of the late Albert H. Lau and Thelma Mae Lau, Barrie attended school in Baltimore and Tampa, Florida. After graduating from Woodlawn High School in Baltimore, he served for four years in the U.S. Coast Guard, attaining the rank of Specialist E-5 in aids to navigation.

After leaving the service, Barrie attended the University of Baltimore, graduating in 1973 with a B.S. in Business Management. Over the next 35 years, he owned and operated a number of businesses in the Baltimore area, including two Seven Eleven stores and LBJ Amusements, a video game business. He sold the last of his businesses in 2009.

Starting in the mid-nineties, Barrie also provided financial management services to EyeStreet Solutions, LLC as Controller and HR Director. In recent years, he served as Chief Financial Officer for CourseArc, LLC, an online education software firm. He also had a lifelong interest in money management, followed the stock market religiously, and amassed a great deal of knowledge and expertise in personal financial management and estate planning.

Barrie was an avid sports fan, especially the old Baltimore Colts, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Baltimore Orioles. He passed his love of sports along to his son Jon, whom he coached in multiple sports leagues in Howard County during the 1980s.

Barrie loved music and delighted in discovering new singer/songwriters and obscure indie bands. He enjoyed spending time at the Maryland and Delaware beaches and traveling to Florida during the colder months.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, generous employer, and loyal friend.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years Susan (nee Hayes), son Jon B. Lau (Lisa) of Ellicott City, Maryland, granddaughters Katherine Barrett Lau of San Diego, California, and Juliet Rose Lau of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and former wife Lark R. Delhamer of Hampstead, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Danny and Ron’s Rescue, www.DannyRonsRescue.org and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Highland, Maryland.
