Barbara P. Prosswimmer

Barbara Pauline (Resch) Prosswimmer, 89, of Columbia, MD, beloved wife of the late Paul E. Prosswimmer, Jr., passed away at Brightview Senior Living on Friday, January 6, 2023 in the presence of her loving children. Born in Bronx, NY, daughter of the late John and Elsie (Eisenbeck) Resch, she grew up in New Hyde Park, NY. After graduating from Sewanhaka High School, she worked as a secretary at Servo Corporation where she met her husband, Paul. They began their married life in Huntington, NY, moved to Rockville, MD and Huntsville, AL, finally settling again in Rockville, MD.  Barbara was a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother, happily married to her cherished husband for 68 years.

Barbara was caring and generous with a kind heart.  The friendships she enjoyed were significant and precious to her.  She loved to knit sweaters for her grandchildren and was always working on a crossword puzzle.  As a longtime member of Geneva Presbyterian Church, she served for many years on various committees, sang in the choir and made many dear friends in the Mariners couples group.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially the many extended family vacations to the Outer Banks of NC.  Spending time with family was her greatest joy.

Barbara was predeceased by her loving husband, Paul. She is survived by sister, Elsie Bishof; sister, Susan Buce and her husband, Alan; and sister-in-law, Miriam Longyear and her husband, Russell.  She is also survived by her three children, Karen Plona and her husband, Vincent of Bloomfield, CT; Doctors Paul Prosswimmer III and his wife, Geralyn of Flemington, NJ; and Laurie Bokulic and her husband, Robert of Columbia, MD.  Barbara was blessed with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Hank Plona; Robert Lebar and his wife, Alison, daughters Maisie & Tillie; Matthew Bokulic; Allison Castagna and her husband, Taylor, son Miles; Katie Prosswimmer and her fiancé, Danny Fitzsimmons; Brian Bokulic and his wife, Katie, daughter Grace; and Michael Bokulic.  Barbara also leaves many special nieces and nephews as well as cherished friends.

The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the loving care of the nurses and caregivers at Interim HealthCare, the entire staff of Holy Cross Home Care & Hospice, and the wonderful nurses and resident assistants at Brightview.

A memorial service and celebration of life may be held at a future date. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
