Aurel Silviu Velculescu, age 83, passed away in Columbia, MD on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
Born March 16, 1939 in Bucharest, Romania, son of Aurel and Victoria (Constantinescu) Velculescu. He studied Architecture at the University of Bucharest and emigrated with his family to the United States in 1977. He and his family initially lived in Westlake Village, CA, and, after obtaining equivalency of his studies, he worked in residential and commercial architecture at several architectural firms including AECOM and Strauss Design Group in California until retiring in 2004 in Dayton, MD. He loved classical arts and architecture, and enjoyed drawing landscapes. Aurel was a kind and loving individual with a generous and thoughtful presence that made others around him better individuals. He was deeply religious and created initial designs of several new Orthodox Churches in the United States, including in San Jose, CA, Palm Springs, CA, and Potomac, MD.
Aurel is survived by his wife Victoria, his son Victor, daughter-in-law Delia, and grandchildren Stefan, Sofia and Julia. Aurel was preceded in death by his brother Victor George, a physicist in Romania.

A Memorial Meal / Masa de Pomana will be held at the Orthodox Church of St. Matthew after the burial at 12:30 pm.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in honor of Aurel Velculescu to the New Church Fund at St. Andrew Romanian Orthodox Church, 9111 River Rd, Potomac, MD.
