Emma Kathrine Fleming, 96, passed away at her Maryland home on December 30, 2019 from congestive heart failure.
Emma was born in Mt. Clare, WV on November 11, 1923, to the late Edward and Ethel Donnellan. She was the oldest of nine children.
Emma graduated from Lost Creek (WV) High School and had a career as an Executive Secretary. Howard and Emma moved from WV in 1954 and lived most of the rest of their lives in Clarksville, MD and Lakeland, FL. Emma was an accomplished needlepoint and rug hooking artisan. She was active in her churches and loved having her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren around.
She is survived by her husband of almost 74 years, Howard Fleming, son Stanley (and wife Gail) Fleming of Ellicott City, MD and daughter Judy (and husband Larry) Gay of Phoenix, AZ. Emma has two grandsons, Matthew (and wife Chris) Fleming of Laurel, MD and Adam Fleming of Baltimore, MD. She has two great grandchildren, Helen (16) and Connor (14) of Laurel, MD. Emma is also survived by two sisters, Sharon Agnew and Lorraine Treisch as well as in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at New Hope Lutheran Church, 8575 Guilford Rd, Columbia, MD on Tuesday, January 7 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm where a funeral will be held at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Highland, MD.
