Edwina C. (Carr) Hartner
February 16, 1933 ~ January 6, 2018 (age 84) 84 Years OldOn Saturday, January 6, 2018, Edwina Carr Hartner of Woodbine, Md, died in her home from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Edwina was born February 16, 1933 to L. Edwin and Ina Bird Carr of Savage, Md. On August 30, 1952, she married John Hartner III and together they raised their four children without ever moving out of Howard County. Painting and gardening were her passions throughout her life. She loved to create and see things grow, including her children. She also loved teaching and sharing her craft with others. She started painting in 1958 and began teaching her craft in 1961. She started a painting club “China Painting Artists of Maryland” and was a member for 25 years. Her mother introduced her to oil painting in 1965 but she didn’t take it seriously until 1983, at which time, she started studying under William Swetcharnik at the National Gallery of Art to learn from the Masters. She also went to Schuler’s School of Art in Baltimore. She continued to paint until she could no longer at the age of 83. She said, “When God deprives you of one thing he gives you something else to compensate for it. God always gives us some ability we should take it and run with it.” She is survived by her beloved son John "Jack" E. Hartner; two loving daughters Debra A. Fort and Catherine L. Peacock; her sister Carolyn Taggart, seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband John "Jack" A. Hartner, their daughter Virginia A. Cotter and her sisters Lorraine Lilly and Jeannette Vollmerhausen
