After a brief illness, loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Madeline Virginia Cholwek, 93, of Ashton passed away on Friday November 20 at Brooke Grove Rehabilitation Center in Sandy Spring. Madeline was born on January 8, 1927 in Bunker Hill, West Virginia. She was one of 13 children of the late Harold and the late Grace Stickel. She was predeceased by her husband John of 54 years.
Madeline was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and primarily a homemaker but worked for the FBI many years ago. She was an active member and the longest serving member of her chapter of the League of Women Voters and also a long time member of the Green Mountain Rug School. She was a Brownie leader, “Mom Cholwek” , “Mom C”, or Aunt Nean to most all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are her children Gary Cholwek & wife Nancy, Gail Cholwek, Cheryl Cholwek, Ann Chenoweth & husband Craig, Gwen Stewart and Jon Cholwek & wife Suzanne; grandchildren David Grier, Travis Stewart, Brandon Frederick, Brooke Chenoweth, Austin Stewart and Chris Cholwek and 46 nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date due to Covid restrictions.
