Mary “Jewell” Morningstar Warden, 89, died September 27, 2018 after living a long and happy life. She was the 7th born in a family of 13 children to coal miner James Homer Stone and Tessie Mabel Walls in War Eagle, West Virginia. Jewell was twice widowed. She married Kenneth Morningstar in 1949, and August “Smokey” Warden in 1984. Along with spending time at her "Happy Place" at Lake Anna, she loved music and dance. Her long time best friend, Ed Marshall was her favorite dance partner and an unofficial member of the family. She was lively and would light up a room when she entered it. Her theme song was “You Are My Sunshine” and she was certainly ours.
Jewel is survived by her two daughters, Deborah M Keller, (son-in-law Robert Keller), and Danielle M Gilliam (son-in-law Dan Gilliam), 3 grandchildren: Lindsay Gilliam (Norbert) Machiran, Kenneth (Krista) Gilliam, and Curtis (Laura) Gilliam. She was very proud of her 7 great grandchildren: Mike, Mason, Maddy “Jewell”, and Maddox Machiran, Nate and Emma Gilliam and Charlotte Gilliam. They were all the light of her life. Jewell is also survived by two of her brothers: James Homer Stone Jr., Tyrone Stone, a sister Dayneze Bishop, and many nieces and nephews. Meeting her in heaven are sisters Sylvia “Sybie” Cline, Wilma “Easter” Jackson, Hildred Stone, Regina “Bea” Ciampanella, Delores Del-Rae “Toby” Culbreth, Eleanor “Ellie” Muncy, and Donna “Joan” Saba and brothers Sterling and Calvert Stone.
